Description:

This position coordinates the Child Visitation and Exchange Center (CVEC) of the Sexual Assault/ Domestic Violence Center, Inc. (SADVC) located in Hutchinson, KS and ensures the overall quality of services provided. The CVEC provides monitored exchange and supervised visitation services to children and families at risk because of circumstances relating to neglect, substance abuse, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, domestic or family violence, and threat of abduction. Services are in a manner that protects the safety of all family members. The CVEC Coordinator position coordinates the CVEC services with the courts, law enforcement, social service agencies, mediators, attorneys, and professional counselors; conducts intakes and scheduling for the CVEC; as well as provides the public with service information. This position supervises the part-time staff and volunteers of the CVEC. This position is responsible for convening and working with the CVEC Advisory Board. This position has a 40-hour work week schedule, with flexibility as defined by the program’s hours of operation and visitation needs.

Specific Duties:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise CVEC staff
  • Conduct regular staff meetings of CVEC staff
  • Become familiar and ensure compliance with the state CVEC Guidelines
  • Perform CVEC participant intakes and scheduling of monitored exchanges or supervised visitations
  • Coordinate and communicate in a timely manner with referral sources and program participants
  • Perform visitation observation, as needed
  • Maintain client records, observation notes, statistics, and other required paperwork or data required by grants
  • Assist with the timely reporting for grants
  • Maintain CVEC program visibility, increase awareness of CVEC services, and seek new referral sources
  • Maintain regular communication with the courts
  • Update CVEC materials, brochures, procedures, and information, as needed
  • Convene regular meetings of the CVEC Advisory Group and recruit new members, as needed
  • Write and distribute a CVEC program newsletter
  • Participate as a member of the Kansas Network of Visitation Providers and the national Supervised Visitation Network
  • Oversee the billing and collection of payment for the CVEC
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, and others to increase awareness of services and referrals to the CVEC
  • Participate in community events, health fairs, or other public venues to increase awareness of the CVEC
  • Provide public presentations, as needed
  • Maintain and complete accurate paperwork and statistical data
  • Assist with other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
Must be 18 years of age or older; High School Diploma or GED; Ability to work in nonjudgmental way with program participants and treat all people with dignity and respect; Ability to work with minimal supervision; Understanding of child development needs and issues; Understanding of dynamics of domestic violence and battering behaviors; Ability to maintain an independent role and draw boundaries; Good observation and behavior documentation skills; Understanding of the dynamics of divorce and separation; Good conflict management skills; Knowledge of a variety of computer applications; Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills; Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality; Experience working with children and youth or families; Must live within 20 miles of Hutchinson business office; Must have a valid driver’s license, insurance, and reliable transportation; Must pass a KBI Background Check and DCF Child Abuse Registry check.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish and English or experience working with multi-lingual client base. College degree.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

THIS IS A PART TIME POSITION. This employee observes Supervised Visitation and/or performs Monitored Exchange at the Child Visitation and Exchange Center (CVEC) and may also perform security duties as needed. This employee reports directly to the CVEC Coordinator or the Executive Director when the Coordinator is unavailable.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  1. Perform observation of Supervised Visitations and/or Monitored Exchanges for CVEC clients.
  2. May assume security duties as needed.
  3. Dedication to the work of the agency.
  4. Maintain professionalism when interacting with clients.
  5. Works as a team member to achieve the goals and objectives of the program.
  6. Handle crisis situations in an appropriate, immediate manner.
  7. Is responsible for providing documentation of time worked by the close of business at the end of the work week.
  8. Documentation of visitations/exchanges with non-biased, fact-based notations.
  9. Fills out observation/exchange forms completely and accurately.
  10. Any other duties deemed necessary by the CVEC Coordinator and/or Executive Director.

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school graduate.
  2. Education in child development, psychology, social work, criminal justice or related studies preferred.
  3. Experience and/or volunteer work in the areas of care-giving role with children, paraprofessional counseling, crisis intervention, social/human services or related areas.
  4. Good communication, listening, and writing skills are necessary.
  5. Good observation and documentation skills are essential.
  6. Planning and organizing skills are required.
  7. Ability to problem-solve, process information, and think creatively is essential.
  8. Empathic, trusting, confident persona is needed.
  9. Ability to establish boundaries of the work environment.

Description:
The sexual assault and domestic violence advocacy program at the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center, Inc. (SA/DVC) in Hutchinson, KS seeks qualified applicants for Rural Victim Advocate.  SA/DVC serves Reno, Rice, Kingman, Harper, McPherson and Marion counties. This position will primarily serve Rice County.  This position involves providing direct advocacy services to victims/survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence by providing support and assisting with resources and options regarding safety. This position is a member of the SA/DVC advocacy team, participating in staff meetings, in-service or other training, crisis call response, and shelter meetings as necessary.  This position also works with community members and organizations to provide direct advocacy services, as well as public presentations regarding domestic violence and sexual assault to identify victims and provide or refer them to needed services.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide victim-centered, trauma-informed advocacy services, including court/legal, law enforcement, medical, crisis hotline, safe shelter, child/youth, and others.
  • Provide personal advocacy and supportive peer counseling to victims/survivors.
  • Assist with the facilitation of support groups for victims/survivors.
  • Provide victims/survivors with a safe, supportive, confidential, and respectful environment.
  • Communicate effectively with victims/survivors to understand their needs and identify appropriate resources.
  • Work closely with other members of the SA/DVC team to ensure client needs are met.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for after business hours crisis response, as needed.
