Dodge City Domestic Violence Shelter Reopens

- For Immediate Release

Dodge City, KS - The Crisis Center of Dodge City (CCDC) has reopened its safe house effective Monday, October 1.

During the height of this summer’s heat wave, the air conditioning unit at CCDC’s safe house began to malfunction, causing a temporary closing of the only safe house of its kind in the area. Agency staff and board have been working tirelessly to open the shelter, but have also taken this opportunity to do some repairs and deep cleaning as well.

"The work of CCDC is so critical to the safety and health of our clients, which made the decision to temporarily close the safe house a very difficult one," says Onna Gebhart, CCDC Board President. "However, we are so glad to be able to welcome survivors into a clean, well-organized, and comfortable safe house while they work to find safety and security in their lives."

During the temporary closure, programs in Great Bend, Liberal and Garden City provided services for those residents of the area needing confidential and safe shelter. CCDC continued to provide non-shelter services during this period. "We are so pleased to have a network of domestic violence and sexual assault services across the state working together on behalf of survivors and their families," said Joyce Grover, executive director of the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. All programs assisting in this transitional period are members of KCSDV.

The CCDC provides free and confidential advocacy services to victims of sexual and domestic violence in Ford, Hodgeman, Clark, Meade, and Gray counties. The CCDC services and safe house are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to victims of sexual or domestic violence and can be reached by calling 620-225-6987.
