Rep. Bob Bethell, R-Alden, speaks about the "sobering" information about sexual and domestic violence he read in KCSDV's "Beyond Statistics" report. Loretta Ross, national human rights activist speaks during the reception about how sexual violence is a human rights violation. "Our job is to understand human rights ourselves in order to better serve victims because to be free from sexual violence is a human right," she said.

Volunteer advocate Karen Bolt is this year's recipient of the Juliene Maska Outstanding Advocate Award. KCSDV has been recognizing outstanding advocates since 1995 with its award named after long-time advocate Juliene Maska. Bolt has been volunteering for four years at the Northwest Kansas Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, the KCSDV member program in Hays.
