Building a Children and Youth Program: Advocacy Services for Children and Youth Impacted by Domestic Violence

AUDIENCE: KCSDV Member Program Advocates and Staff

Sponsored by:

In this training, advocates will explore two areas of child and youth advocacy program development to include individual and group activities concerning domestic violence. This interactive session will include planning, designing, and adapting individual and support group activities to the needs of children and youth impacted by domestic violence. Through a progressive SMART goal activity designed to implement innovative best practices to serve children and youth within shelter services, advocates will plan, design and enhance children and youth programming with a focus on the core services of child and youth advocacy. Within this session, advocates will practice planning, designing and facilitating individual and support group children and youth advocacy activities.

As a result of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Develop children and youth individual and support group topics that promote resiliency.
  • Plan individual and support group activities that support planned outcomes for each session.
  • Practice designing and facilitating age-appropriate children and youth individual and support group activities.
  • Utilize tools, resources, and curriculum for supporting children and youth exposed to domestic violence.
