During the 2024 Legislative session, HB 2781 was proposed by the Office of Kansas Attorney General Kris W. Kobach to expand eligibility for Kansas Crime Victims Compensation. HB 2781 was passed unanimously by the House and Senate, and signed by Governor Kelly. There are many changes to the Crime Victims Compensation statutes, including extending the filing deadline from 2 years from the date of the crime to 5 years from the date of the crime, allowing the Board to waive the filing limit if denying compensation would be a severe injustice to the victim, victims who obtain a forensic medical exam may be eligible for compensation without reporting to law enforcement, and human trafficking victims can be paid wage loss.
Whether you are directly supporting survivors or would like to better understand the Victims Compensation Program, this training will provide a detailed understanding and guidance on how to get the support you need.
Register today and join us to strengthen your response and support for survivors across Kansas.
