KCSDV is hiring for our Accounting Assistant postion

Position: Accounting Assistant


Responsible to: Director of Finance and Administration


Primary Responsibilities: Perform day-to-day bookkeeping, accounting, and administrative functions to support the organization's financial operations. Assist with accounts payable processing, maintain vendor and financial records, assist with payroll and benefits administration, support grant and audit reporting, and help ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial transactions. Provide staff support and training on purchasing and payment procedures while maintaining established financial controls and administrative processes.


Specific Duties:

  • Manage accounts payable process in conjunction with accounting contractor and staff
  • Collect and process recurring invoices
  • Maintain digital purchase order and AP system and provide ongoing training and support to staff for payment processes
  • Prepare all payments including paper checks and electronic payments
  • Maintain vendor files and W-9s
  • Reconcile credit card statements
  • Prepare and complete bank deposits
  • Submit payroll tax and benefit deposits
  • HR Maintenance of benefits, including open enrollment,
  • Monitor garnishments and other one-off payroll adjustments in conjunction with accounting team
  • Submit required payroll reports such as 941 and SUTA
  • Request grant reimbursement drawdowns in accordance with funding requirements.
  • Work with accounting staff to prepare W-2s and 1099s
  • Assist with updating policies and procedures
  • Perform bookkeeping functions for Friends of KCSDV
  • Prepare various annual compliance reports
  • Assist with annual audit preparation

Employment Status: Fulltime (36 hours/wk.), nonexempt (hourly)


Salary Range: $45,000. We know that the practice of salary negotiation can contribute to pay inequities, this starting salary is non-negotiable. Our compensation structure—as well as our approach to future compensation adjustments—is transparent to all employees.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed: Two years of bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred; nonprofit accounting experience is a plus; demonstrated proficiency in MIP/Abila or other accounting software; high level of initiative, detail management, and organization on matters of significance; ability to prioritize, work independently and with a team, meet deadlines, and display superior perception skills; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; experience reflecting progressively increased work responsibilities.


Location:  This position offers a collegial working environment in our offices in downtown Topeka, KS. with a hybrid in-person/remote work schedule. Remote work is set for most staff as Mondays and Fridays, with weekly

office hours as 8:30am-5:00pm (Monday-Thursday) and 8:30am-12:30pm

(Fridays).
