Sexual assault survivors will have a stronger assurance of accountability and justice with the passing of HB 2228 by the Kansas Legislature this session. Gov. Laura Kelly and representatives of the multidisciplinary organizations playing a part over many years recently were part of the Ceremonial signing. HB2228 directs law enforcement to submit sexual assault kits within 30 days for analysis. Also, sexual assault kits from cases that are not reported to law enforcement will be kept by the KBI for 20 years rather than 5 years. This improved structure will hold perpetrators accountable and provide justice for survivors.

The case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard shows who gets our empathy, who gets to speak, and what we still don't understand about domestic abuse.
