NAESV Statement on Title IX Proposed Rule

Statement by National Alliance to End Sexual Violence Policy Director Terri Poore on the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on Title IX by the Department of Education:

(Washington DC) “Today, the Department of Education issued a new proposed rule rolling back Title IX protections for survivors of sexual violence in schools and on campus, severely narrowing the definition of sexual harassment, and weakening institutional responsibility for responding to sexual violence. This proposed rule reflects a profound abdication of responsible leadership at a time when our society is continuing to unearth the realities and pain caused by sexual violence and calling for institutional accountability. The National Alliance to End Sexual Violence, state coalitions, rape crisis centers, and advocates, in solidarity with survivors, will not stand by while the Department attempts to roll back rights for survivors and encourages institutions to sweep sexual violence under the rug. We will raise our voices in protest.”
