Advocacy with LGBTQ+ Survivors of Sexual Assault – Virtual
Audience: KCSDV member program advocates and staff
Date & Time:
Tuesday, June 20, 2023
1:00 – 2:30 p.m. (CST)
Description:
Statistics show that sexual violence disproportionately affects the LGBTQ+ community. However, advocacy programs may not always feel equipped to address the particular challenges LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual assault may face. In this interactive training, we will examine the impact of sexual violence on the LGBTQ+ community, discuss barriers to services and healing for LGBTQ+ survivors, and practice advocacy skills and safety planning with LGBTQ+ survivors.
As a result of this virtual training, participants will be better able to:
- Discuss the impact of sexual violence on the LGBTQ+ community
- Identify barriers, experiences, and considerations for LGBTQ+ survivors
- Implement strategies for advocacy and safety planning with LGBTQ+ survivors
