Language access and accessibility are important factors in helping survivors of sexual and domestic violence during their healing and justice journey. When applying language access and accessibility to services, advocacy programs help improve survivors’ lives, safety, and well-being. During this webinar series, advocates will discuss language access and accessibility to help build and improve their responses to underserved, Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/d/HoH) communities, and individuals who use languages other than English.
Part 1 – Creating Meaningful Language Access and Accessibility Plans

Part one of this series will build foundational knowledge about language access and accessibility, the impact on how services are delivered, and the legal requirements for providing language access services. Lastly, during this webinar, participants will be able to practice designing comprehensive language access and accessibility plans.
Objectives:
- Summarize definitions and legal requirements to provide meaningful and effective language access services.
- Develop comprehensive language access and accessibility plans.

Part 2 – Language Access and Accessibility within Outreach and Program Events

Part two of this series will focus on developing practices to enhance outreach efforts, communication equity, and equity within collaboration. We will also discuss scheduling and working with interpreters, preparing, and meeting accommodation requests and applying plain language practices.
Objectives:
- Identify and implement best practices when working with interpreters.
- Develop strategies for language access and accommodations.
- Apply language access and accommodations strategies to provide inclusive, equitable, and welcoming outreach services and event spaces.
