SANE Adult/Adolescent Nursing Clinical

Audience: RN’s who have completed a 40-hour SANE/SART Adult/Adolescent Course or a 64-Hour Adult, Adolescent & Pediatric SANE SART Course. In addition, it is highly encouraged to have attained competency with speculum insertions before attending this course. If registrants can practice that skill before the course, we have found it valuable, but it is not required.

KCSDV is approved as a provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering is approved for 18.5 contact hours applicable for APRN, RN, or LPN relicensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing provider number: LT0291-0914.


Description:

Upon completion of this clinical skills program, nurses will have a more comprehensive understanding of the medical-legal examination and factors affecting the care of the sexual assault patient. Lecture and return demonstration of essential skills utilizing live models, including history taking, assessment, forensic photography, evidence collection, patient education, care planning and discharge, will be the core focus of this program. This program will enhance the nurse’s ability to provide comprehensive care to survivors of physical and sexual assault in a variety of complex patient scenarios.

Following this program, the participants can be expected to:

  • Verbalize and demonstrate clinical competency in performing a medical-forensic sexual and/or physical assault examination of an adult/adolescent patient.
  • Verbalize and demonstrate clinical competency in performing a detailed female and male anogenital examination, including speculum and anoscope insertion.
  • Verbalize and demonstrate the ability to utilize assistive visualization techniques, including toluidine blue dye, foley catheter technique, alternative light source, digital camera.
  • Verbalize and demonstrate competency and application of critical thinking skills in a variety of sexual assault examination scenarios including drug-facilitated assault, reported vs. non-reported.

Registration Fee:

*The normal registration fee of $250.00 for this course is being waived for professionals who work with rural or underserved victims/patients of sexual assault. A portion of this clinical training is being sponsored by the Pittsburg State University ANE-SANE Grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The reporting requirements for the grant include trainee demographic data. In order to collect this data, the grant coordinator at PSU will email you a brief questionnaire a week or two before the training. Please note that this information will not be shared and that your name and any other identifying information will not be included in the report to HRSA.

The above information must be completed prior to attending the clinical training.

** No-shows and cancellations made less than 72 hours before the event may be assessed the registration fee ($250)** Cancellation: KCSDV reserves the right to cancel any training that does not meet the enrollment quota. All pre-registered attendees; will receive a full refund.
