In this session, presenters will provide best practices for advocates working with children and youth within shelter services to include: developing safety plans, developing emotional regulation skills, identifying individualized protective factors, and interventions to support and validate children and youth experiences. Presenters will focus on interventions that promote the emotional well-being of children and youth that begin from shelter intake to individualized supportive activities. There will be a strong focus on the protective factors that promote children and youth resiliency.

As a result of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Understand impacts of domestic violence and co-occurring bullying on children and youth.
  • Discuss strategies for promoting the emotional well-being of children and youth within shelter services.
  • Practice methods and have confidence talking to children and youth about domestic violence and co-occurring bullying.
  • Practice relationship development strategies that recognize individualized children and youth experiences and autobiographies.
  • Recognize strategies to foster resilience in children and youth who have experienced domestic violence.
  • Utilize tools and resources for supporting children and youth exposed to domestic violence and co-occurring bullying.
