Victim Advocacy Services Providers and Experts From Across the State Join in the Kansas Capitol on Wednesday

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence (KCSDV)’s 16th Annual Advocacy Day is on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in the Kansas Capitol. The goal of Advocacy Day is to increase public knowledge and awareness of sexual and domestic violence and the victim advocacy services available and provided to victims and survivors of sexual and domestic violence in Kansas.

All legislators, journalists, and members of the public are invited for the day of tabling and information, especially for the Silent Witness Display Program at 11-11:30 a.m. on the second floor in the rotunda in the Kansas Capitol. The program will consist of speakers and introduce the Silent Witness Displays set up around the rotunda. The Silent Witness Displays are life size silhouettes, representing Kansas women who lost their lives through sexual and domestic violence. The speakers include Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas Manager of Community Relations Marlou Wegener, University of Kansas Professor Juliana Carlson, and KCSDV Executive Director Joyce Grover.

“These Silent Witnesses represent the devastating impact of sexual and domestic violence. Their stories exemplify why our Kansas communities need sexual and domestic violence services,” Grover said.

On the first floor of the rotunda, KCSDV’s coalition member programs will each have a table with information on the breadth and depth of services the organizations provide to victims and survivors every day in their local communities. KCSDV will also have tables of information on the first and second floors in the rotunda.
