The Department of Education issued a new proposed rule rolling back Title IX protections for survivors of sexual violence in schools and on campus, severely narrowing the definition of sexual harassment, and weakening institutional responsibility for responding to sexual violence. The Department of Education’s proposed Title IX regulations are troubling and disappointing. By narrowing the definition of sexual harassment and limiting cases for which schools are responsible, they will make America’s college campuses less safe for survivors of sexual harassment, misconduct and abuse. On November 16, 2018, the Department of Education released its Notice of Proposed Rulemaking to address how schools receiving federal funding respond to sexual violence under Title IX. No one’s education should be interrupted by sexual assault. The proposed rule changes shamefully roll back protections and rights for survivors.

2017 Statistics Show Increases in Homicides and Rapes

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) recently released “Domestic Violence, Stalking, and Sexual Assault in Kansas as Reported by Law Enforcement Agencies” report for 2017, showing the highest numbers of domestic violence-related homicides and rapes reported to law enforcement in the past 20 years.
